Prerequisites

• Your Salesforce org had MergeUp installed before the Bellatrix release was pushed to it.
• You have Salesforce administrator permissions to customize page layouts and permission sets, manage custom metadata types, and edit MergeUp Templates.

Overview

MergeUp pushes Bellatrix to existing customer orgs. This article covers the manual layout changes required after that push and the recovery steps to use if the MergeUp post-install script reports an error. New installations already include the updated layouts and do not require these layout changes.

For orgs that had MergeUp before Bellatrix, Enforce External URL Allowlist remains disabled by default so existing Templates continue to merge without interruption. While enforcement is disabled, MergeUp does not restrict public IMAGE URLs to approved domains.

Steps

1. Add the global enforcement field to the MergeUp Global Configuration custom metadata type layout.

   1. In Salesforce Setup, search for and open Custom Metadata Types.
   2. Open MergeUp Global Configuration, then select Edit Layout.
   3. Add Enforce External URL Allowlist (Enforce_External_URL_Allowlist__c) to the layout and save your changes.

   

2. Add the Template-level fields to the MergeUp Template page layout.

   1. In Salesforce Setup, open Object Manager, then open MergeUp Template.
   2. Select Page Layouts, open each layout used by the administrators who configure Templates, and add the following fields:
   • External URL Allowlist Mode (External_URL_Allowlist_Mode__c)
   • External URL Allowed Domains (External_URL_Allowed_Domains__c)

   Save each updated layout. If your org uses multiple Template page layouts or record types, update every layout that should expose these controls.

   

3. After the fields are available, follow Configuring IMAGE URL Security Controls to identify and configure allowed domains, test representative Templates, and enable enforcement. That article is the maintained source for allowlist behavior and domain-pattern requirements.

Correct Post-Install Script Failures

If the post-install script cannot complete an update, it sends an email with the subject Action Required: MergeUp Upgrade Follow-Up. The Bellatrix release remains installed. Use the error details in the email to determine which checks and manual corrections are required.

If you do not receive this email, no manual post-install script recovery is required.

• Permission set update failure: If the email includes Exception while adding fields to MergeUp Permission Sets, inspect both packaged permission sets because the field-permission update did not complete.

  1. In Salesforce Setup, open Permission Sets, then open MergeUp Admin.
  2. Under Object Settings, open MergeUp Template and select Edit.
  3. Grant Read and Edit access to External URL Allowlist Mode and External URL Allowed Domains, then save.
  4. Repeat the check for MergeUp User, granting Read access to both fields without Edit access.

  

• Template PDF conversion migration failure: If the email identifies one or more Template record IDs with could not be migrated, open each affected Template and set Additional Parameters to the following value:

  {"useOldPDFConversion":true}

  This setting preserves the Template's pre-Bellatrix PDF conversion behavior. Verify that each corrected Template produces output matching its pre-release output.

• General migration or unexpected failure: If the email includes Exception while migrating existing template PDF conversion options or Unexpected exception in the package post-install script without identifying every affected Template, complete both checks above. Review all existing Templates and apply the legacy PDF conversion setting to any Template that was not updated.

If the email is truncated, the affected records cannot be identified, or you cannot complete a correction, contact support@mergeup.io and include the email's error details.
