Prerequisites:

• To alias fields within MergeUp Manager, start by creating a template, adding a query, and including the fields you want to simplify in your query.

• Ensure that you have all of the necessary permissions to modify query fields.

Overview:

Lengthy or complex field names can make your template difficult to read and potentially disrupt your styling. To address this issue, MergeUp provides a feature that allows you to alias fields. Field aliasing lets you reference fields in your template with shorter, more intuitive names that you define, making your template cleaner and easier to manage.

Steps:

1. With your query selected, find the second column labeled "Alias" and click the edit icon (typically a pencil symbol) next to the field you wish to alias.

   

2. An input box will appear in the column, allowing you to enter your preferred alias; then, either press Enter or click away from the input box to apply it.

3. You will notice that the field is automatically updated. In the third column, labeled "Template Field," you will see that the syntax for that field has now changed to reflect the alias you provided.

   

You can now reference this field within your template document using either the newly created alias or the original API name of the field.

Repeat these steps for any additional fields you wish to alias within this query or in other queries within your template.

Notes:

• Field aliasing is particularly useful when dealing with long or complex field names that could make your template hard to work with.

• You can apply aliases to as many fields as needed within your queries, making your template documentation more concise and user-friendly.

• Remember that while aliases simplify your template, they do not change the actual field names in your data source; they are only used for reference within your template.
