Prerequisites

1. MergeUp Installation: Step 1: Install MergeUp

2. Administrator Privileges: You must possess administrator privileges that grant you the ability to create and manage External Client Apps, Auth Providers, External Credentials, Named Credentials and Permission Sets, as well as the API Enabled permission and access to the MergeUp Manager app. Access to the MergeUp Manager can be easily granted with the MergeUp Setup permission set.

Overview

Setting up authentication for MergeUp is handled entirely through the MergeUp Setup Flow. This guided experience walks you through everything needed to securely connect MergeUp to your Salesforce org and, if desired, immediately enable access for selected users - without requiring manual configuration of authentication components.

Steps

1. Navigate to the MergeUp Manager app via the App Launcher and ensure that you are on the application home page. If not, select the MergeUp Home tab at the top of the screen.

   

2. In the MergeUp Setup screen flow on the right-hand side of the page, click Next to start the setup wizard.

   

3. The first screen of the wizard requires a contact email for the External Client App that will be created. This email will be used for any administrative notifications Salesforce may have regarding the External Client App.

   

4. You can optionally select any users you would like to have immediate access to MergeUp admin or user functionality. Otherwise, you can configure permission set assignments manually at a later time. Click the Authenticate MergeUp button to generate all the required items and permissions. Please wait until the loading spinner disappears to confirm that the process finished successfully.

   

5. Once processing is complete, you need to enable the MergeUp API Named Credential for callouts. Click on the Link to Named Credential, click the edit button, and toggle the Enabled for Callouts option as prompted.

   

6. After enabling the Named Credential for Callouts, click Next.

   

7. The final step in authorizing admins and users to merge documents with MergeUp involves authenticating the External Credential principals associated with the generated Named Credential.

   • For Merge as Admin:

     • Either access the Named Credential via the blue highlighted link from the previous step then click the MergeUp API Ex link under the External Credential Field, or navigate to the same External Credential via Salesforce Setup.

       

     • To avoid error, wait a few minutes and then click the drop-down arrow on the right side then select Authenticate for the Merge as Admin Principal.

       

     • Log in with your user credentials allow access for the MergeUp servers.

   • For Per User Named Principal:

     • Click on your user profile icon in the top right corner.

     • Select Settings and then click External Credentials on the left side.

     • Click Allow Access on the External Credentials page.

     • Log in as the user for whom you want to enable MergeUp access.

     

8. Congratulations! You have completed configuring authentication for MergeUp!

Notes

• If the MergeUp API Named Credential is ever disabled for callouts, a warning will be displayed as seen below. You must reenable the Named Credential for callouts to merge documents with MergeUp.
