Overview

Quick actions serve as a convenient alternative to components on your record page, providing the capability to launch a screen flow through a button. This screen flow allows you to customize your document merging process beyond what is supported by our built-in components—all with the click of a single button. Let's delve into the fundamental steps of creating a screen flow and transforming it into a quick action.

Steps

1. Create your new screen flow.

   

2. Click the "New Resource" button and select the "Variable" Record Type.

   

3. Fill out the following fields as listed:

   • API Name: "recordId"
   • Data Type: Text
   • Avaiable for input: TRUE
4. Add the Apex action as seen in the Using Flows documentation.

5. Add a Decison node called "Check Flow Status" and Set the Outcome Details as follows:

   • Label: Success
   • Resource: {!Merge_a_Document.completed}
   • Operator: Equals

   • Value: {!$GlobalConstant.True}

     

6. Create two screen nodes on each outcome. One that will display your success screen on the "Success" path and the other the displays the error message on the "Default Outcome" path.

   

7. In your Failed to Merge screen, drag a Display Text into the screen. Give it an API Name and insert the Merge_A_Document error message.

   

8. Save and activate your flow, giving it the name "Merge a Document".
9. Navigate to the desired object setup you wish to add the Quick action to and go to the "Buttons, Links, and Actions" section.

10. Click "New Action"

    

11. Fill in the following fields:

    • Action Type: Flow
    • Flow: Merge a Document (the name of your flow)
    • Label: Merge a Document
    • Name: Merge_a_Document
12. Save and navigate to your objects record page.

13. Edit the page.

    

14. Select the "Highlights Panel" make sure you are using dynamic actions, and add your quick action.

    

15. Select the "Merge a Document" Action.

    

16. Drag it to the desired location, and Save your page.

17. Go back to your record page, and test your new quick action.

    

18. You can close your quick action and locate the merged file in the related list of files.

    

Notes

• This article assumes the object you are using has dynamic actions enabled. If not, you can still add the button using the Page Layout Editor.
• This is not the only way to create a quick action using our invocable. You can use any method that Salesforce supplies, as long as it supports invocable Apex actions.
• Quick actions must be a screen flow, they cannot be any other flow type.
